Search Engine Optimization Blogs
SEO Blogs is my title, SEO is critical for all webmasters including bloggers. 80% of all traffic online originates from Google. While search traffic likely won't be 80% of the traffic you get, you cannot ignore it as a source.
Gone are the days when you can just write great content and be found and followed. Here are some ways you can easily optimize your blog for Google.
Write Content People Can Use
The best kind of content is actionable. Articles that leave readers with something to think about are good, but articles that give readers something to do are better. A blog post that provides useful and actionable content makes for a great piece of content.
Let readers know in the title that there is going to be useful information. "How to" titles are a great example of this.
Spend 25-50% of Your Time on Your Title
Your post will never get read if the title is click-worthy. Many content copywriters recommend spending 50% of your time on your title. Depending on your writing habits you might spend much less on it. However, the title is second in importance only to the actual quality of your content.
Titles that get clicked invoke curiosity, promise a benefit, suggest new content, and imply that the information is useful.
You'll want your keyword to be in your title as well. It's best to begin your title with your keyword if you can.
Optimize EVERT Post for the Search Engines
Every post or content page on your site should target a unique keyword. Even if the search traffic you are going after is very low, every little bit helps. An unoptimized post has no potential for future search engine traffic. Think of every new post as a new opportunity to rank for another keyword. In other words, you have are building another traffic stream of new visitors.
If your page doesn't rank right away for its keyword phrase, you can always build links in the future to get it ranking. As you post new content you can link back to it internally as well.
Optimize After You Write
While you should be optimizing every post for the search engines, I don't recommend doing it right away. You should pick out your keyword first and plan your post and title around it. However, the actual optimizing of the content should wait.
It can be hard to get a good flow going while writing. In order to write well and efficiently you need to stop yourself from constantly editing while you write. Trying to optimize and use certain keyword phrases while you are writing is bound to slow you down and affect your writing.
